WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION NEWS
Could patients need to take Skinny Jabs for Life?
Weight-loss injections may need to be for life, not just two years. Health services need to plan for patients to use weight loss medications long-term and not treat them as a short-term fix. In an article in New Scientist, Clare Wilson argues that weight loss medication may need to be prescribed for longer than the 2-year limit advised by NICE.
She writes:
“Unfortunately, many doctors think England’s guidance body has made a misstep by recommending people be restricted to two years of use, even though the drug is meant to be taken long-term. Health systems in other countries are also debating how to respond to this unprecedented situation, and none has yet found a good answer.”
The issue is that while many may accept that two years is long enough for people to lose a considerable amount of weight supported by weight loss medications, trials also suggest that people using the medication may put weight back on once they stop using the medication.
At Weight Loss Buzz, we believe itʻs a fair assumption that if you rely solely on medication and pay no attention to behaviour change or exercise, or a change in diet, then weight gain is more likely.
As such, some people may need to use skinny jabs, or weight loss injections for the long term, or even for life, or will need to find alternative therapies that complement the use of the medication and make coming off the medication a regain-free process.
The length of the availability of weight loss medications is a vital consideration for patients. Some may find themselves cut adrift at the end of a two-year period supported b the NHS and may find themselves having to ʻgo privateʻ and find their medication themselves if they wish to continue to use it.
Ultimately we may see that NHS trials show success initially, but may well show that without additional support, patients may put weight back on at the end of the two-year period. Weight Loss Buzz welcomes future studies into the cost-benefit of weight loss injections long term.

SKINNY JAB AVAILABILITY
Looking for skinny jabs or weight loss injections online?
We checked a range of online pharmacies and online doctor ʻclinicsʻ in the UK this week for Saxenda and Ozempic. The picture is pretty bleak if you are looking for an online prescriber and don’t already have a prescription, or are not already a customer.
Some online doctors or weight loss clinics may have availability of some drugs for existing customers, indeed most online providers in the UK are now stating that they only have supply for existing customers.
Weight Loss Buzz exists to help patients make informed choices and so we aim to gather current and relevant information about availability. We will bring you an update on weight loss injection availability each week, as it changes. While it seems that Ozempic and Saxenda are generally not available from online clinics for new patients in the UK right now, the situation is in flux and subject to change. We will also bring news of alternative medication and weight loss approaches for those affected by the supply issues.
